'Well, she did pick the prettiest pictures', says Daniëlle Roman (25),
as she sees the 12 picture frames. Each photo shows two persons posing.
One of them is Daniëlle Roman. 'I don't really know what to make of this,
these are my pictures'.

According to Karlijn Budel this could be the reaction of Daniëlle Roman after
seeing her graduation work 'Frederik, Daniëlle, Karlijn en Marleen'. It consists
of a research that started with a contribution to the NRC.NEXT newspaper
section 'klik@nrcnext.nl'. Karlijn submitted a photo and caption from an
xisting flickr profile. She pretended to be Frederik Vandaele. Subsequently
the photo was printed by the newspaper. Fascinated by the growing importance
of sharing individual expressions on the internet, Karlijn collected information
about four individuals. She used this data as a starting point for the design of
four characters, part reality, part fiction: Frederik Vandaele, Daniëlle Roman,
Karlijn Budel en Marleen Luijt. The collected data combined with the generated
content resulted in four books in which the characters are presented. The fluidity
of the internet is paused for a moment and concentrated to a story where
fact and fiction merge.

Frederik, Danielle, Karlijn & Marleen is a graduation project by Karlijn Budel, Artez, 2007.
